Continuing education

At Virginia Commonwealth University Respiratory Care Services, we enjoy the benefit of a full-time education coordinator and a number of strong and talented respiratory therapists who support the professional development of our staff. They also work to educate our physician and nursing colleagues, along with our patients and the public at-large.

VCU Respiratory Care Services offers in-house education offerings, such as AARC Professor’s Rounds, which provide 10 CRCEs per year, as well as two one-day symposia — the Mechanical Ventilation and Interventional Pulmonology Symposium and the Advanced Respiratory Care Topics annual meeting. These events draw practitioners from across Virginia and North Carolina.

Other education opportunities range from our comprehensive orientation and training of new employees to regular in-service events, competency training and product education. Employees also contribute to protocol development, specialty unit education, physician housestaff education and respiratory therapy student clinical instruction.

In addition to in-house education and professional development offerings, all staff members are eligible for tuition waivers for up to two college courses per semester after one full year of employment with VCU Respiratory Care Services.
